Since 1972 when we first committed to deliver specialist services to Local Government, our knowledge of the sector drove the development of the largest and most diverse Local Government Mutual Schemes nationwide. Every Mutual is specifically tailored to meet the specific risk profile and need of Local Government in the areas of Workers' Compensation, Public Liability and Professional Indemnity, Property, Motor Vehicle, Personal Accident and other risk areas. Since the first Mutual was launched in 1986, we have continued to explore opportunities and now another 14 Mutual Schemes operate throughout Australia.
A key strength of the Mutual Schemes is that they provide stability and confidence to Local Government regardless of the volatility that traditional insurance markets can often provide. There is no greater evidence that the limited impacts to Local Government from the significant insurance market cycles that arose from the collapse of insurance company HIH and the September 11 tragedy in the United States in 2001.
